THE Forres Wednesday Seniors played their first match last Thursday with personnel from 39 Regiment Engineers based at Kinloss Barracks.

The Engineers, captained by Ian Cowley, took up the challenge left by the RAF Kinloss Golf Society who played their last annual match with the Wednesday Seniors in May last year.

The 12-man teams played a 4-Ball Best Ball format.

Despite the “dreich” conditions both sides enjoyed the competition and there were some very tight finishes; but old age and treachery overcame youth and skill, and the Wednesday Seniors, captained by Tom Fleetham, managed to win the match. The result was decided by the last of the six games with a win for the Forres pair, Gary MacDonald and Dennis Pritchard, making the score 3.5 to 2.5.
