MORE than 80 pupils from six schools enjoyed a local running event at Grant Park.

Despite a rainy start to the day, conditions turned out to be perfect for the annual Forres Primary Schools Cross Country races on Saturday, February 29 organised by Forres Harriers and Active Schools.

Junior athletes from Anderson's, Applegrove, Pilmuir, Kinloss, Alves and Dallas Primary Schools challenged over six races around the undulating course.

Harrier Hilary Cameron said: "The event was a big success and exciting for the spectators. All of the runners showed great enthusiasm. Anderson's Primary retained the Forres Primary Schools Cross Country team trophy."

Active Schools co-ordinator, Craig Carswell, added: "It was fantastic to see school staff and parents encouraging pupils to attend. Without them, the event wouldn’t be possible.

"The P1-3 race which was only introduced last year was a real success and hopefully some of these go on to be future stars of Forres Harriers.

"Every child who took part in the races put in a fantastic effort, and we look forward to seeing them attend events in the future."
