WOULD you like to know the history of two of Forres’ most important buildings - inside out?

Fancy meeting visitors from all over the world and passing on your wealth of knowledge about the area?

If so, Forres Heritage Trust’s (FHT) upcoming events are perfect for you, offering the opportunity to learn about the Tolbooth and Nelson’s Tower ahead of the tourist season and volunteer tour guides.

Trustee and volunteer coordinator, Peter Haworth, confirmed informative ‘Volunteer Days’ will be on Thursday, March 14 between 2 and 4pm, and on Saturday, March 16 between 10am and midday.

He said: “FHT relies on the good will of people who give up their time as it’s powered by volunteers. The relaxed volunteer events are a chance for people to chat with volunteers about what’s involved.”

FHT owns the Tolbooth and has an agreement of use with Moray Council for Nelson’s Tower. Volunteers maintain the buildings and open them to visitors between April and September.

Nelson’s Tower is open every day from 2-4pm.

Less frequent Tolbooth Tours require support too - the details are to be confirmed for this year.

“These attractions are hugely popular with both tourists and locals alike,” said Peter, “but to ensure they run well and provide a good experience, we need more volunteers to help.

“Each year, we try to add to our volunteer pool. As the trust grows, so does the requirement for more help.”

FHT appreciates any time whatsoever that volunteers can spare.

Peter finished: “There is no minimum number of hours, we will take all the help we can get!

“Our volunteers really enjoy what they do. They meet people from around the globe while ensuring that two of the town’s most historic buildings thrive and remain relevant for years to come.”
