THE season will be celebrated with a variety of artistic performances near a local village this weekend.

The 41st Winter Gathering at Universal Hall - starting at 7.30pm on Friday evening - is a variety show of music, dance, song and spoken word sponsored by the New Findhorn Association (NFA) and The Findhorn Foundation - attendance is free but donations to Moray Food Plus will be gratefully accepted.

An event spokesperson explained: "Increases in the cost of living are making it harder for households to make ends meet so food poverty is growing. The performers and organisers are volunteering their time and all proceeds will go to Moray Food Plus after expenses."

From humorous to gently moving, this year's performances will include: songs by Too Many Kooks, The Forres Big Choir and Drumduan Upper School Choir; nature slides by Alan Watson Featherstone accompanied by Carolin Waldmann; Sacred Dance with live music; traditional Indian dance by Kirsten Newell and Prriyanka Gonawala; storytelling by Carol Scorer with music by Rory O'Connell; spoken word by Dave Till; and much more.

The spokesperson added: "Harris Huggan will premiere 'When Winter Comes Around', written and composed by Lila Senior. Drumduan School Choir will sing 'Walking in a Winter Wonderland', Too Many Kooks will sing 'Mary Did You Know', a Ukrainian group will sing a traditional harvest carol, and group carol singing will led by Bill Henderson. Carolin Waldmann will be creating atmospheric sound with vocals, violin, and using a loop station.

"Dancers Kirsten Newell and Prriyanka Gonawalaa are choreographing and performing a Bharatanatyam duet that's been created especially for this event.

"Carol Scorer will tell Beira, an ancient Celtic winter myth accompanied by Rory O'Connell on Uillean pipes.

"And Dave Till will entertain us with a humorous 'Phone Call to God'!"

"Although it's colder and darker at this time of year, we can generate warmth and connection with seasonal celebrations" said the spokesperson. "Please join us and help to raise funds for our local food bank!"
