POLICE dealt with instances of vandalism, antisocial behaviour, theft and drink driving in the area last month.

The crimes are listed in the latest safety report issued to Forres Community Council by Inspector for Lossiemouth, Fochabers, Forres and Speyside Community Policing Teams, Andrew Meikleham.

He said: “Our focus is to reduce crime and disorder, help create safer communities and respond effectively to local concerns.

“The report highlights emerging issues and provides guidance to community council members and residents.”

Damage was caused to a large window at a business in the town centre. A male seen to flee from the scene was quickly traced by officers and later issued with a recorded police warning for vandalism.

A local school was also subjected to vandalism, with damage caused to windows. Enquiries are ongoing with support from the school’s administration.

Also last month, someone was found to be acting in a threatening and abusive manner, causing members of the public to be alarmed. The person was charged along with other related offences. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

There were six crime reports raised for theft in the Forres area. Some were from local businesses. Positive lines of enquiry are being followed for all of them.

A person was arrested and charged for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Five vehicles were stopped on the Forres bypass for speeding in a 40mph area. The drivers were given advice and charged for the offences.

A further vehicle was stopped - the driver was found to be driving without insurance or a valid licence.

All of the motorists apprehended have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Meanwhile, PC White continues to engage with Forres Academy’s school community. In May, he attended a weekly drop-in for pupils to chat.

Nursery and P1/2 pupils from Dyke Primary School also attended Forres police station last month. They enjoyed a tour, were shown how to take their fingerprints and sat in police cars.

Insp Meikleham said: “It was a very enjoyable experience for all concerned and continues to create positive associations between the police and local schools.”

Forres Police Station public counter is open from 8.15am-4pm Monday-Thursday and 8.15am- 2.45pm on Fridays.
