NATURAL energy is helping to fund a trip to Europe for a local group of 30 musicians.

Forres and District Pipe Band has been awarded £3625 by the Berry Burn wind farm Community Fund towards the travel costs to represent Forres at the 1100th anniversary of Forres’ twin town of Goslar in Germany from June 23-28.

Band spokeswoman, Sharon Carmichael, confirmed their application for funding was supported by the Forres and District-Vienenburg and Goslar Twinning Association, whom they are holding a fundraising coffee morning at Forres Town Hall on April 30.

She said: “We have 28 band members, committee and parents travelling to participate alongside other invited bands.”

The band will stay in a hotel in Goslar and enjoy a guided tour of the town and social events over a weekend of celebrations. A highlight on day one will be a musical tattoo in front of the Imperial Palace of Goslar. The following day the band will play in the Old Town with other bands at its historic market place.

Sharon added: “The band are currently working hard, practising for the trip and the summer season of Highland games which starts as soon as they return.”
