The granite obelisk on Castle Hill, Forres, was built in memory of Assistant Surgeon, James Thomson, who gave his life to save hundreds of injured Russians after the Battle of Alma, in 1854.

The photo was taken by Alan Fraser, who lives in Lhanbryde.

He says: "I was born and raised in Forres and this obelisk always seemed so much taller then!"
