Thursday, October 5 will see Pickled Republic come to the Lemon Tree. This is an exciting solo show about the search and need for purpose. Inventive clowning, puppetry, and mask theatre combine to create a show full of “confident absurdity…., pitch-black humour and pulpy carnage”. (The List)

The show follows the tragicomic journey of a few outrageous characters – including a pickled tomato and a potato-headed lounge singer – who come to life to ask major existential questions and offer ridiculous answers, leaving audiences with a hilarious “uneasy queasiness” (The List).

The show gets on the road at 7pm with tickets £13.20 from www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, by phoning (01224) 641122 or visiting the box office at His Majesty’s Theatre or the Music Hall.

The following day Scottish Ballet will present Twice Born, two thrilling works from two of today’s most exciting dance-makers.

Dickson Mbi is an award-winning choreographer and world-renowned dancer in the Hip Hop dance community, whose collaborators include Robbie Williams, Black Eyed Peas, CHVRCHES and Russell Maliphant. His acclaimed popping skills are integral to the work that he creates today. He was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Dance at the 2023 Olivier Awards for his recent work Enowate. Scottish Ballet will premiere Twice-Born, Dickson’s first commission for the company.

Schachmatt (Checkmate) by Spanish choreographer Cayetano Soto had audiences on their feet at its world premiere. The quirky equestrian-themed ballet sees dancers moving across a giant chessboard.

The performance is at His Majesty’s Theatre at 7.30pm. Tickets prices range from £20 to £38.50 and are available from www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, phone (01224) 641122 or visit the box office at His Majesty’s Theatre or the Music Hall.

Over at the Music Hall on the same day will see Perthshire farmer and comedian take to the stage with his show The Hills Have Ayes.

After his last sell out tour, he dons the checked shirt again as he returns with a brand new show telling tales of Scottish rural life. With his trademark mix of regional accents and impressions, Jim shares anecdotes from his changing world which has seen him get engaged, become a first time father and continue farming through Covid and Brexit.

The curtain goes up at 8pm. Tickets are £25 – to purchase, visit www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, phone (01224) 641122 or visit the box office at His Majesty’s Theatre or the Music Hall.

Trail-blazing comedian Paul Foot will be performing his ground-breaking show Dissolve.

Friday will also see Paul Foot performing Dissolve at the Lemon Tree. Life is a stress: full of rushed breakfasts, angry people, internal conflict, and Jacob Rees-Mogg. But what happens when everything you thought was important – your problems, grievances against others, your very identity – simply disappears?

A multi-award-winning and trail-blazing comedian, Paul is back on tour with Dissolve, his most personal, surprising and ground-breaking show ever.

In the year 2022 AD something momentous changed for Paul, and in this show he will reveal how he discovered the secret of life on the outskirts of Lancaster.

Getting under way 8pm, tickets are £17.60, available from www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, phone (01224) 641122 or visit the box office at His Majesty’s Theatre or the Music Hall.

Saturday, October 7 sees Maxim Emelyanychev sets out for an unforgettable evening of joy and passion as he brings the Scottish Chamber Orchestra to Aberdeen as part of a very special 50th anniversary tour of the nation – in some of the biggest-hearted, most compelling music around.

Beethoven’s majestic Eroica Symphony provides a rousing, soul-lifting climax to the festivities, while SCO Associate Composer Jay Capperauld – one of Scotland’s most exciting and original voices – unveils a brilliantly coloured new piece written specially for the occasion.

In between, SCO Principal Clarinet Maximiliano Martín joins Principal Viola Max Mandel in Max Bruch’s tender, intimate Double Concerto, written for his clarinettist son, and every bit as richly romantic as the composer’s famed Violin Concerto No 1.

Savour the sounds of The Boss when the Springsteen sessions play at the Lemon Tree.

The Lemon Tree is the place to be for Bruce Springsteen fans on Sunday, October 8 when the Springsteen Sessions come to the Granite City.

The Springsteen Sessions have built up a strong following in Scotland and increasingly in England as an energetic and dynamic seven-piece band who faithfully recreate the excitement and drive of The Boss and The E Street Band. They have performed to critical acclaim at a variety of club and theatre venues, and are in regular demand for festival appearances at venues like Belladrum, Fringe By The Sea (North Berwick) and Marvellous (Reading).

They are not a tribute band that attempt to look like the original band; they are a homage to the music of one of the most iconic performers of the last 40 years, and they feature music from the earliest period of his career right through to the most recent recordings.

The house starts rocking at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £16.50, available from www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, phone (01224) 641122 or visit the box office at His Majesty’s Theatre or the Music Hall.
