Moray's MSP has written to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, Jeane Freeman, after being contacted by a number of constituents about the issue.

He has also asked for an update on any research being carried out on the longer term impact that coronavirus might have on patients.

Extreme fatigue, nausea, chest tightness, severe headaches, "brain fog" and limb pains are amongst the recurring symptoms described by sufferers.

Some constituents have joined the Long Covid Support Group on Facebook which has been set up by those experiencing ongoing effects.

Mr Lochhead said: "People who have had coronavirus will have had a range of experiences, with some people only having mild if any symptoms and others will have severe illness.

"A number of constituents who have had coronavirus over the last few months have been in touch with me to share their experience.

"Many have told me that they continue to experience adverse effects on their health and wellbeing, despite a number of weeks having passed since they were infectious.

"It is important that there is support in place for those who are experiencing long-term side-effects.

"I’ve written to the Health Secretary to get an update on what steps are being taken to ensure that is the case.

"We continue to learn more about this virus every day and we do need to understand the long term impact covid-19 could have on people’s health."
