A KEEN golfer has raised money for local causes by organising a competition for the 17th year in-a-row.

James 'Flicker' Duncan divided the £3000 proceeds from his Texas Scramble at Forres Golf Course on Sunday, June 16 equally between The Oaks, Forres Christmas Lights, Riding for the Disabled Forres and District, Macmillan Cancer Support and Forres In Bloom.

He said: "The event was very good and the atmosphere was super. The players turned up from all over, not just Forres."

The Texas Scramble’s format is straightforward: each player hits a tee shot and the best ball, as determined by the captain, is selected for the second shot. Each member of the team hits his or her shot from that spot and the process continues until the hole is played out.

Around 150 players joined teams of four in perfect conditions.

Flicker has been organising the events for 17 years.

He said: "I started it to raise money for The Oaks palliative care day hospital in Elgin but in the years after it got so big I decided to share the proceeds amongst other charities.

"This year, the prizes were donated for an auction and raffle afterwards which raised £1500 - the rest of the proceeds were made up of entry fees."

He added: "Look out for the Flicker Texas Scramble 2020!"
