THE circus has been in the blood of professional clown Whimmy Walker for hundreds of years.

"My great great grandfather was the royal clown to Queen Victoria," he said.

"All my family have been in the circus for generations, on my mother's and father's side, so what else could I be but a clown?

"I am a very traditional clown," he added.

Whimmy is in town with Zippos Circus and looking forward to a six day run with 10 shows.

"It is one of the only entertainments left for all the family to come and see, there is a bit for granny, grandpa, dad, mum and the children," said Whimmy.

"You get to see a lot of the world. Many of the artists come from different places and countries, and go to different countries to work.

"You learn different languages, see different people and cultures.

"A lot of our artists have never been to Scotland."

"This year the whole show is changed and is bigger and better than ever before.

Whimmy is a juggler as well, and will have a special nod to Scottish tennis hero Andy Murray in his act, which he does in tandem with Paulo dos Santos, from Brazil, who is the ringmaster, clown and acrobat.

"We are like a Laurel and Hardy," Whimmy joked.

Whimmy can juggle with up to five tennis rackets at a time.

Paolo is delighted to be in Elgin and touring Scotland.

"We love everything here in Elgin and to make the best show for everybody," he said.

"We invite all of Scotland to come and see our amazing show.

He has been travelling the world for five years with Zippos Circus.

"I enjoy this life. Zippos always bring the best artists.

"Zippos Circus is a family. We are glad to be back here in Scotland.

"We do it 100 per cent for the people who come so they can go home happy. That is the most important thing."

The show is called Nomads, which sums up the circus way of life.

The cast is multinational with performers from Mongolia, Morocco, Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia, Kenya, the UK and Spain.

Zippos is at the auction mart site in Elgin until Tuesday, July 4 and opens tonight (Thursday, June 29) at 7pm.

There are two shows each day, except the opening night and Tuesday.

Tickets can be bought from the box office at the auction mart and also online at www.zippos.co.uk
