Fran Hutton worked as a carer for over 19 years before deciding that she wanted to provide more support than the position allowed her to.

As such, she founded Helping Hands, a business that offers social and practical support to individuals and respite for families, two years ago.

The business is based in Lossiemouth but supports clients across Moray with a team of five staff.

After winning the award at the Banff Springs Hotel on Thursday evening, Fran expressed her shock and dedicated the win to one of her clients who sadly passed away just one day before the ceremony.

Fran said: “I’m shocked. When I was told of my nomination I said there are people more worthy of this than me. I do what I would expect for my family and my loved ones.”

She added: “Yesterday we lost a client that was really dear to myself.

“She was inspirational at 92 years old. We cared for her but she taught us so much.

“I said to my team tonight that if I win, this is dedicated to her because myself and my team strive to be better carers and through her love for us and our love for her she has taught us a lot about compassion, empathy and what it’s like to care.”

The Carer of the Year award was sponsored by Parklands Care Homes.
