A CHARITY which supports people in crisis and points them towards mental health recovery, will be the winner on Friday night at Mosset Park, home of Forres Mechanics.

The inaugural Mikeysline Cup will play out at Mosset Park – home of Forres Mechanics.

The sides facing up to each other on the pitch will be Moray Mental Health FC and a select team from The Northern Scot and parent company Highland News and Media.

This is the first official match for Moray Mental Health FC, which was formed earlier this year by three friends – Matty Slinger, Phil Barton and Steve Simpson.

They lost a mutual friend to suicide and wanted to provide a platform locally for men and women to come together for regular kickabouts and a chance to chat about how they are feeling.

They have partnered with Mikeysline, a Highlands and Moray charity formed in 2015 after the deaths of a number of young men, which provides a text, Whats App, Messenger and X (formerly Twitter) help service and also has local local Hives where face to face support can be given, and a young people's service.

Mikeysline is the Charity of the Year for Highland News and Media, so the match up with Moray Mental Health FC was the perfect pairing to contest the trophy.

Matty said: "Everyone is buzzing for the game on Friday night and we are so grateful to Forres Mechanics for the use of Mosset Park for this event.

"We have been delighted with the response from local businesses and supporters of our group.

"Come along and have some fun, while supporting a great cause which helps so many people across Moray and the Highlands."

Patrick at Alba Traffic Management has been kind enough to advertise Friday's charity match using their digital screen (above). You’ll spot it on the A96 next to Mosset Park.

Forres Mechanics' correspondent and chief reporter of The Northern Scot, Jonny Clark, is looking forward to the challenge.

"The game will be played in a great spirit and raising as much money as possible for Mikeysline is the main focus.

"There will also be a competitive edge to the match under the new floodlights at Mosset Park."

There will be a raffle on the night, and teas and coffees for sale, with hot food as well, and the Mechanics' bar will be open in the main stand.

The gates open at 6pm and the big kick off is from 7pm. Admission is by donation, look out for the volunteers in Mikeysline's blue tee-shirts with their buckets.

If you need support – Text 07786 20 77 55 and Mikeysline will be there. The service is open Sunday to Thursday, 6-10pm and Friday-Saturday 7pm-7am.
