Scale model builders from across Scotland made their way to Thainstone on Saturday for the annual Aberdeen Model Society's Scale Model Show.

Drawing entrants from groups and individuals from as far as Stirling, Edinburgh, Dundee and Forres as well as the hosts from Aberdeen the event offers scale model builders an open showcase for their skills as well as pitting their builds against each other in the highly contested awards.

Throughtout the Thainstone Exchange, tables were laid out with creative displays from groups covering aircraft, military vehicles, commercial vehicles as well as papercraft and 2D print modelling.

International Plastic Modeling Society (IPMS) members put on superb displays encompassing everything from the Titanic through to spaceships and historic figures and which included the group from Kinloss and Forres whose members Kerry McLennan, Mike Coxon Tom Docherty and Tom Grier whose aircraft collection caught the eye of many attendees.

Garnock Valley Mens Shed group showed off the creations that their members have been working on, in what is becoming a growing trend amongst 'shedders' across the country to include hobby areas at their facilities.

Specialist collections were also highlighted including the EE Lightning, Bomber Command and the Swedish/Scandanavian focused builds.

Catching the eye of many of the visitors this year was exhibitor Bernard Montague from Dumfermline and District Scale Modellers with his display of card craft.

He explained: "A friend put me onto the website www.papermodelers.com a couple of years ago and I was instantly hooked.

"I'd seen what could be done with paper and these days if there is a kit, I'll have a go at building it.

"There are a wealth of free resources out there and if you can name it, someone somewhere probably has a card kit available for it - everything from Dr Who's Tardis to buildings and birds."

The next modelling event in the north-east takes place at the Highland Model Show at Moravia, North Road, Kinloss and which runs an October 14 from 10am-5pm.
