A MORAY SNP councillor has issued a warning to people across Moray today as Aberdeen moves back under lockdown.
Councillor Aaron McLean (Forres) reminded people in Moray of the importance of continuing to follow Scottish Government rules and guidance after Aberdeen had a range of restrictions reimposed.
Following a spike in cases, bars and cafés have been forced to close again. People in the city will not be allowed to visit friends or family in other houses for at least the coming week.
Cllr McLean, chair of Moray Council’s education, communities and organisational development committee, said: "We have now seen dozens of Covid-19 cases develop from this outbreak and many of us will have seen the pictures of distancing measures being completely ignored by people outside bars.
"Here in Moray we have done so well to avoid a large number of cases – and pubs and cafés are only now slowly getting back on their feet after being closed for so long.
"Most of all we have all enjoyed visiting family and friends again after keeping to our own households for many weeks. I don’t think anyone wants to go back to those restrictions, especially after going through them all so recently."
He added: "With schools due to return next week, we must all continue to follow the rules and guidelines. By doing so we can help bars, cafés and restaurants by following distancing rules and ensure owners will do their utmost to enforce them.
"We must also remember to follow the FACTS: Face coverings; Avoid crowded places; Clean your hands; Two-metre distancing; Self-isolate and book a test if you have symptoms.
"If we all do this we can continue to see restrictions eased and avoid setbacks and the reintroduction of previous restrictions.
"Most of all, this is about saving lives. If we all do our bit and 'keep the heid' we can minimise the risk of virus transmission and reduce the infection rate and ultimately prevent avoidable deaths from this very damaging virus."
