A gathering at dawn is on in Forres during Suicide Prevention Awareness Week.

Moray will host four free ‘Walk of Hope’ events in total - at Cooper Park, Elgin on September 2, Grant Park on the 3rd, Byres Farm, Fochabers on the 9th and the new bridge in Lossiemouth on the 10th.

Moray Wellbeing Hub Social Movement and Enterprise lead, Heidi Tweedie, confirmed the events will provide opportunities to remember those lost to suicide, express solidarity to folk living with suicidal thoughts, and raise awareness in an inclusive way.

She said: “Last year, we had 21 people join us at Lossiemouth - there were tears as well as laughter, shared stories as well as silence. This year, we hope many more people can join us to see the dawn and give hope around a painful and often taboo subject.”

The theme for World Suicide Day 2023 is creating hope through action. This links with Moray Wellbeing Hub’s ongoing project ‘Collective Action in Wellbeing For Moray’, which has resourced training and support around mental health activism. An online survey is gathering ideas on how to prevent suicide. See www.moraywellbeinghub.org.uk for information. An app is available from www.preventsuicideapp.com
