Voting is now open for the Primary Pupil of the Year category at the Moray and Banffshire Heroes awards

VOTING has opened in the Moray and Banffshire Heroes awards.

There are 12 different categories and the winners will be revealed on Thursday, April 20 at Brodie Countryfayre.

A special Hero of Heroes will also be announced on the night.

You have until March 26 to cast your vote.

From 9am on Tuesday, March 7 you can go to www.hnmedia.co.uk/morayheroes/ to support your favourite.

The nominees for the Primary Pupil of the Year (sponsored by Andrew Smith Funeral Directors) are Amy Bobby Cruickshank, Katie and Finley Greene and Jack Walker who have all been nominated for their inspirational actions.

Eight-year-old Amy is a pupil at Greenwards Primary School and has been shortlisted for helping to care for and support her older sister Faye who was born with a rare brain abnormality.

Applegrove Primary pupils Katie and Finley are always willing to help others. The siblings have been spending their Sundays volunteering for a local cattery and shelter and are also part of the school eco group, which works with Moray School Bank to recycle school uniforms.

Jack (11) has been nominated for his bravery and maturity in the face of a rare disease. The Greenwards Primary pupil has ITP (immune thrombocytopenia purpura) and has faced his condition with determination, despite the disruptions to his life and education.
