For nearly 30 years Frances Jamieson, who provides respite and residential care at Alba Place in Elgin, has been helping children and young people with disabilities.

Upon one of her nominations forms, someone has written: "She is the most hard-working and kindest person I know.

"Frances works for a number of charities across Moray because she's so passionate about making our community the best it can be."

Frances is also involved in the Cameron Project, a befriending service in Forres.

The Moray Resource Centre focuses on reducing loneliness and social isolation.

Folk are picked up from home, then dropped off again in the evenings, following a packed and busy schedule that can involve anything from craft-making to carpet bowls and bingo.

Open five days a week, the service also provides unpaid carers with the opportunity to take a break.

Shelagh Parkinson undertook her medical training in London.

Following on from 14 years working in the African state of Zaire, she has lived and worked in Moray for the past decade.

Her skills as a paediatrician are much respected at Dr Gray's Hospital.

One of her nomination forms says: "It's often said that nobody is irreplacable, but I'm really not sure what we'd do without her in Moray. She is a remarkable woman."

The Healthcare category is sponsored by Specsavers in Elgin.

Retail director Peter Taylor said: "We're incredibly proud to be involved and to shine a light on all those real-life superheroes who go above and beyond every day in our community to keep us safe and healthy."

The Moray and Banffshire Heroes awards have 12 different categories.

The dozen winners – plus a special Hero of Heroes – will be revealed on Thursday, April 20 at Brodie Countryfare.

Votes can be cast until Sunday, March 26.
