Forres is well-known in Moray for voluntary efforts, and an event planned for the town hall will showcase opportunities as well as the available skills of volunteers.

Rotary Club of Forres, in partnership with Forres Area Forum (FAF), Forres Area Community Trust (FACT) and local community councils are organising the Volunteers’ Fair in the main hall from 10am-1pm on Saturday, April 2.

Rotary member Ken McLennan confirmed all community organisations are invited to take part.

Ken said: “Grow your organisation, provide your views on what is needed or find out more about what is available in the area.

“As we emerge from the pandemic, this is the time to let people know what is on offer, who groups cater for, the expertise they provide and any requests they have for support.

“By listening and sharing expertise, we can enhance our community for the benefit of all.”

Stalls at the town hall will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so applications are requested to be in early.

An information slide show will run at the event showing what organisations that cannot come along offer.

Forres Area Forum chairwoman, Sandra Maclennan, said: “Many groups are having difficulty attracting volunteers. The fair will give residents the opportunity to find out about the skills and time needed to sustain our vibrant town into the future.”

Feedback from the Volunteers’ Fair will inform a review of 2014’s Spirit of Community’ project which set out a number of aspirations for Forres. Details are to be finalised but a public meeting is provisionally planned for the town hall on Wednesday, April 27.

FACT development manager, Debbie Herron, said: “FACT are very pleased to be continuing to develop our partnership with Forres Rotary, Forres Area Forum and the local community councils.

“We know that when we work together we can reach more people and make a difference in our community.

“The Volunteers’ Fair is one way of reaching out to other organisations and groups in the Forres area.

“This will be followed by Spirit of Community events and activities later in the spring.

“This work has been delayed since 2020 and we are excited to find ways to come together to see what our community needs coming out of the pandemic.”
