PEOPLE across Scotland are being encouraged to support the tourism industry over the school holidays by experiencing a day out across the country.

A campaign by VisitScotland, in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland (HES) and the Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions (ASVA), is promoting discounted tickets to more than 60 participating properties across the country.

As the schools close for the February break, people are being encouraged to take advantage of the ticket incentive scheme and help provide a boost for the local tourism industry during the traditionally quieter winter months.

The campaign was launched in October last year and will run until the end of March to support the ongoing recovery of tourism. More than 1200 tickets have been sold across the Historic Environment Scotland participating sites using the Great Days Out code online, which offers children’s tickets for £1 until the end of March.

Using a combination of paid media and digital activity, including paid social and display advertising, the campaign aims to inspire Scots to get out and explore the country on a day out or short break.

It has also utilised the existing partnership between VisitScotland and ScotRail to promote the ‘kids for a quid’ offer for rail travel in Scotland.

A dedicated Days Out in Scotland landing page on VisitScotland’s website showcases the vast range of paid and free visitor attractions, outdoor adventures and tours on offer throughout the country during the winter.

Participating locations across the north-east include Cullen Sea School Elgin Cathedral, Peterhead Prison Museum, Huntly Castle and Duff House.

VisitScotland Regional Director David Jackson said: “Visitor attractions play an important role in both the tourism industry and in local communities across Scotland.

“We know the cost of living is having an impact on spending habits and by taking advantage of the discounted tickets on offer, families can have a great day out wherever they are and help support their local tourism industry.

“This activity will help stimulate demand and new bookings for the industry during the quieter winter months, helping to rebuild our valuable visitor economy.

“Tourism is a force for good. It creates jobs, sustains communities and contributes significantly to the economy.”
