Vintage clothing display at Highland Hospice Forres ahead of Forres Heritage Trust's Historic Photographic Exhibition

ONE hundred-year-old clothing is on display in a local shop window ahead of another historic event in the town centre.
The outfits have been donated to Forres Heritage Trust (FHT), with some currently on display in the Highland Hospice shop at 43 High Street - to be moved to the Tolbooth for the trust's Historic Photographic Exhibition at the end of the month.
The dresses were supplied by Meg and John Mackenzie, who set up FHT in 2010 and helped secure the purchase of the Tolbooth which it now owns.
Meg said: "We're delighted to donate these vintage clothes to FHT. The ultimate aim is for them to be sold to generate funding for FHT, but first we want the public can enjoy them!
"The flapper dresses were given to John by his godmother Bessie Hodsdon who had a shop on High Street.
"Some of the items are over 100 years old and we’re hoping that there is someone out there who might be able to help us with more information about them or be able to give us a value."
FHT trustee, Ainsley James, has been collating information about the collection and helped Highland Hospice shop manager, Mairi Skivington, create the shop window display.
He said: "This is such a wonderful donation from Meg and John. The craftmanship in the dresses is impressive and we've enjoyed learning about all of the items.
"We found a picture from the early 1960s of Gordon the Drapers' shop window on High Street which shows one of the outfits. This is now on display at the Hospice. A big thank you to Mairi and her team at the shop who helped create the striking window display."
Mairi added: "I've enjoyed working with Ainsley and the beautiful dresses. So many customers and passers by admire them. It’s been a wonderful project to work on."
The Historic Photographic Exhibition will take place in the Tolbooth from Wednesday, August 31 to Saturday September 3 between 10am and 4pm.
Entry is £2 and there will be a raffle and tea and coffee available in the court room.
