Findhorn residents attend Royal Garden Party in Edinburgh to celebrate their contributions to village life

LOCAL villagers were thrilled to attend an event at the Palace of Holyroodhouse organised by King Charles III.
Moray’s Coronation Champion, Cathy Low, along with several other Findhorn residents, attended the Royal Garden Party in Edinburgh attended by the king, Queen Camilla and the Princess Royal who invited attendees who have made significant contributions to their communities.
Cathy’s title - one of only 50 awarded in Scotland - was bestowed in recognition of the voluntary work she does to benefit residents and visitors to Findhorn. Cathy also received a specially designed, official Coronation Champions pin and a signed certificate from the king and queen.
She said: “I was truly honoured to receive the award and an invitation to the party! I was allowed to take two guests so I invited Findhorn Coastal Rowing Club members Claire Weller and Alison Mackay who were instrumental in saving the life of fellow rower, Maclean Macleod after his cardiac arrest at the piers in Findhorn last summer.”
Captain Claire confirmed the pair were honoured to be invited, adding: “The weather was dreadful but it was a wonderful experience.”
The Cross family, who run Findhorn Village Stores and Post Office, were also invited in recognition of the support they give to the village and, in particular, for their support of vulnerable residents during the Covid pandemic.
Richard manned the shop whilst Tracey and daughter, Lilli, attended.
Tracey said: “We were honoured to be asked to attend and enjoyed the day.”
Regional Lord Lieutenants make the invites on behalf of the royal family.
Deputy Lieutenant of Moray, Sue Finnegan, said: “I was delighted that these extremely deserving Findhorn residents were invited to the Royal Garden Party and had a lovely afternoon despite the weather.”
