THE community is invited to an update on the future of a historic local building.

The Leanchoil Trust and partners Erskine Veterans Charity, Hanover Housing and the Scottish Ambulance Service will discuss their vision for the site of Leanchoil Hospital hospital which served the area for more than a century until its closure by NHS Grampian in 2018.

Trust chairman, Graham Hilditch, first mooted an alternative future for the St Leonard’s Road site.

He said: “We’re excited about the prospect of the community taking ownership and developing The Leanchoil Centre.”

The open-doors event on Tuesday, June 20 will be held from 4-8pm in the Tolbooth courtroom. Attendees will be able to talk to trustees and meet representatives from the trust’s partners. Visualisations of Leanchoil will be available, as will details of the plans to transform the building into a community health and wellbeing, and veterans’ activity centre.

Erskine provides bespoke services for veterans.

Hanover Housing provides care and supported living accommodation. It will develop 40 units on site.

Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) are already resident on the site - both trust and service are committed to this continuing.

Mr Hilditch finished: “We are looking forward to meeting locals and introducing our partners who are vital to the success of the project.

“We, the community, will be taking ownership of the site and its future, so please come along as your views are important to this.”
