Local residents raised concerns about road safety on the stretch of the A96 going through the village after several incidents in the summer last year.

The speed limit, currently 50mph, has been a particular point of discussion – along with road signage and markings.

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead met with Transport Scotland, Amey and Police Scotland on-site at Brodie last year to discuss concerns about road safety through the village.

At the meeting, Transport Scotland committed to carrying out further speed surveys and a review of road signage and layout.

Mr Lochhead has now received an update confirming that the speed surveys have been carried out and the results are currently being reviewed by Amey, the operating company.

Transport Scotland has also indicated the road markings and signage review will be completed early this year by Amey.

Mr Lochhead said: “Following my multi-agency meeting at Brodie a few months ago where we discussed local concerns over road safety through the village, Transport Scotland and Amey committed to a number of actions which included carrying out new speed surveys in the area.

“Transport Scotland has now confirmed to me that the speed survey is complete and the results are currently being reviewed by Amey.

“The roads authorities also agreed to review the road signage and markings and although this hasn’t yet been carried out, I have been assured by Transport Scotland this will be done early this year.

“I welcome the update and hope the second stage of the review is carried out as soon as possible. I will continue to keep the community up to date on progress and next steps.”
