INCREASED restrictions are in place for patients at Forres Health and Care Centre.

Health and Social Care Moray (HSCM) have temporarily ceased operation of the Unscheduled Care Unit (UCU) as today (Friday, March 27) as a tactical response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The measure follows restrictions already in place which mean only those patients with pre-booked appointments can visit their GP - appointments can not be arranged at reception and must be made by telephone.

HSCM public involvement officer, Fiona McPherson, explained: "The temporary closure will be reviewed on a monthly basis.

"Staff within the UCU will be redeployed to help support community nursing provision and to contribute towards the staffing of a COVID19 nursing response team.

"Members of the public are directed towards www.nhsinform.scot for advice and guidance regarding health related matters."

Some patients with pre-booked appointments may be contacted to change their appointments to telephone or video consultations instead.

The steps have been taken to ensure a safe service for patients and staff, protecting the most vulnerable/elderly patients, using guidance from NHS and UK and Scottish Governments.

The latest NHS guidance is available at https://www.nhsinform.scot/coronavirus
