Two youths have been charged with deliberately starting fires at Sanquhar Woods in Forres.

Shrubs and woodland being set alight during the evenings of both Tuesday, April 18, and the following day.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service had to attend and extinguish the fires.

The police say they have charged two youths, who are both male, with the offence of wilful fire-raising.

PC Steph Bayliss from the Forres Community Policing Team said: "We’ve received a number of reports of wilful fire-raising in woodland areas recently.

"It should go without saying that deliberately setting fires is dangerous – you have no idea of how they may develop.

"We are working alongside partner agencies and schools to educate pupils to re-iterate the dangers of lighting fires."

"Anyone with concerns about criminality in their area is encouraged to contact us on 101 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
