TWO coronavirus-related deaths have been confirmed in Moray in the past week, taking the area's death toll since the outbreak began to 29.

In the same seven-day period, 91 new cases of the virus were confirmed across the area, meaning 1000 cases have been confirmed in Moray since March last year.

Both residents who died tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away within 28 days.

In total, 21 people in Moray have died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test, while eight had Covid-19 mentioned on their death certificate (as per the last Scottish Government update).

The 91 positive cases of coronavirus represents a reduction on the 119 confirmed in last week's update.

However, this may be due to a reduction in the amount of tests taken. Since January 26, 450 people have tested negative for the virus in Moray, compared to the 575 people who tested negative last week.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 12,569 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began. That's an increase of 402 on the 12,167 reported last week.

Moray neighbourhood update

Twelve 'neighbourhood areas' in Moray have at least three confirmed cases of Covid-19, according to the latest update provided by the Scottish Government.

A large amount of the cases are centered around Keith, Elgin and Buckie.

Keith and the surrounding area has 23 confirmed cases of the virus, with 13 in Keith and Fife Keith and 10 in Rural Keith and Strathisla.

Elgin has 21 cases (Elgin Cathedral to Ashgrove and Pinefield nine; Bishopmill East and Ladyhill five; New Elgin East four and Elgin Central West three), while Buckie has 14 (Buckie West and Mains of Buckie nine; Buckie Central East five).

Four other neighbourhood areas have cases of Covid-19. These are: Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock (six); Lossiemouth East and Seatown (three); North Speyside (three) and Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry (three).

All other areas of Moray have confirmed fewer than three cases of Covid-19 within the most recent seven-day period.
