TWO Forres Gazette employees have been named as finalists at the Highlands and Islands Media Awards.

Photographer Daniel Forsyth and sports reporter Craig Christie have been shortlisted for awards in their respective categories.

The annual prize-giving ceremony – cancelled due to coronavirus in 2021 – is due to take place at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness on February 4.

This is the first time that Daniel, who has worked with The Forres Gazette and its sister titles since 2013, has been nominated for Photographer of the Year at the Highlands and Islands Media Awards, while Craig was named Sports Reporter of the Year in 2017.

There is big competition for both awards, with Daniel up against fellow Highlands News and Media photographer James Mackenzie and freelance snapper Paul Campbell.

If he does win, Daniel will become the second consecutive Forres Gazette photographer to win an award at the ceremony – following on from the now-retired Eric Cormack winning Top Shot in 2020.

His snaps, covering the whole of 2021, range from welfare football to shots of people protesting against rising sea levels.

In the running for Sports Reporter of the Year, Craig is up against Eilidh Davies of the BBC and Eric Mackinnon of the Stornoway Gazette.

Craig has worked with The Forres Gazette and its sister titles since 1997, starting in circulation and moving to editorial in 2007.
