A LOCAL out of school club is celebrating its second decade as a charity – after turning 20 this Spring.

Care Inspectorate-registered Kinloss Crafty Cool Kids Club (KCCKC) on Burghead road has space for up to 20 attendees at a time.

KCCKC manager Claire Brenton confirmed the facility was started in 2001 but registered as a charity in 2003 by a voluntary committee who recognised the need for a childcare facility in the village.

She said: “Our club is inclusive and inviting to everyone. Children and parents have commented that it is like a homely extension of their family!”

KCCKC originally operated from the stage at Kinloss Primary School. As attendance grew, it moved over to Cumming Hall in 2012, rented from the Ministry of Defence.

Claire said: “Operating from a shared facility provided many challenges so we looked for our own premises. Kinloss School Lodge had been empty for a number of years so, after grant funding, renovations and a lot of blood, sweat and tears from our committee, staff and parents, we moved in April 2018. We still rent the building from Moray Council.”

KCCKC’s breakfast and after school club has a waiting list. And during holidays and in-service days, children from as far as Aberlour, Lhanbryde and Nairn have attended.

“There is a severe lack of childcare provision like ours in this area,”explained Claire. “Over the years, our breakfast, after school and holiday club have become essential resources for working families.”

KCCKC currently has eight members of staff. Claire has managed for nine years.

She explained: “We also have a voluntary committee made up of parents and former staff who meet once-a-term to oversee everything. We would love new faces to join our committee for fresh ideas and plans.”
