FORRES Academy will re-open to pupils tomorrow (Tuesday, October 24) thanks to the school janitors and a specialist cleaning company.

Parents, carers and guardians advised yesterday that the school had "been impacted by water ingress" as a result of storm Babet so students were to stay at home today.

However, a letter from head teacher Jan Sinclair issued via email and social media confirms the downstairs floor has now been fully re-opened.

She said: "This is not the start of Term 2 that anyone would have wanted. We thank you for your patience and understanding regarding the events as a result of Storm Babet.

"This morning we had a specialist cleaning company on site and we will be in a position to fully reopen tomorrow.

"I would like to take the opportunity to give sincere thanks to our janitors Duncan Simpson and Brian Sutherland. They worked tirelessly here over Saturday afternoon when the water began to ingress. Without their swift action, the school would have been in a much worse position."

Repair work was also carried out during the October holidays in downstairs areas that had been closed off due to faulty concrete (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete).

This means the foyer area leading to the canteen and the assembly hall, as well as 'P' corridor that leads to the gym halls and music rooms, are now re-open.

Mrs Sinclair said: " Any pupil that has Drama or HE period 1 on Tuesday should enter school through the pupil entry doors from the main quad and go into the assembly hall through the normal doors off the foyer.

"Any pupil who has Art/Photography in the gym halls period 1 on Tuesday should enter school through the pupil entry doors from the main quad and go down the P corridor to the gym halls.

"Any pupil who has Music period 1 on Tuesday should enter school through the pupil entry doors from the main quad and go down the P corridor to Music.

"All other one way systems remain in place as before - it is only the outside entry to the assembly hall, gym halls and Music that have changed."

Forres Academy will announce its Phase 2 RAAC contingency arrangements for practical HE, Woodwork and Science for senior students tomorrow.

Mrs Sinclair finished: "We look forward to seeing all our pupils back with us."
