A charity focused on preserving local nature has invested more than £3000 in improvement works.

Using a £1000 Tesco Community Grant and £2100 from the Co-op Local Community Fund, Forres Community Woodlands Trust (FCWT) employed contractor Jon Meldrum to fix paths around Sanquhar Wood.

FCWT secretary, Gisela MacFarquhar, confirmed the work took a week to complete.

She said: “There were stretches which got muddy - mostly near the entrances to the woods at Woodside Drive and Mannachie - that walkers had to negotiate. He also scraped a few areas further into the woods and dug run-offs to let rainwater drain.”

FCWT’s latest management plan was adopted in January 2022.

Gisela said: “Our next fundraising project will be maintenance work in the car parks at Sanquhar Mains, Muiry Wood and Newforres Wood. Our volunteers mostly plant native trees and dig out invasive rhododendrons or cut down other invasive trees. We could do with more to help!”
