A GROUP of humanitarians has planted 70 trees to mark the time since it was founded.

Rotary Club of Forres members bought a mixture of Rowen, Silver Birch and Aspen from local nursery Christie Elite and planted them on Forres Golf Course.

Incoming Rotary president, Brian Higgs, confirmed the trees are taking root on the 18th fairway to create a new wood.

He said: “The Rotary have a long association with Forres and we are pleased to work for the benefit of the community. We look forward to our next 70 years!”

Forres Rotary also planted the trees to mark the Queen’s platinum Jubilee tree planting campaign.

Brian said: “We wanted to plant somewhere in a public space - the course has a long term planting programme. Fellow Rotarian Stan Thompson and I asked if the course had an area the right size and they suggested the 18th fairway.”

Rotary International brings together business and professional leaders to provide community service. There are over 46,000 member clubs worldwide, with a membership of 1.4 million.

For seven decades, Forres Rotary has worked on projects and raised funding for charity, as well as enjoyed informal social activities.

Rotary members use their time, talents, professional skills and energy to improve the lives of the community. They also enjoy the benefits of business networking, personal development, meeting new friends, hearing inspiring speakers, having fun and experiencing fulfilment.

Forres Rotary now numbers around 45 members who usually meet weekly at the Mosset Tavern but use Zoom for online meetings when required.
