YOUNG people in the area are again being given the chance to show off their talents from the stage.

The annual Forres Youth Concert is taking place at the town hall on Tuesday, March 14 at 7pm and the event already features an array of acts keen to impress the live audience who will also see who wins the Community Shield for making an outstanding contribution to their community, group, school or club over the last year.

Pop group Be Like Pablo’s lead singer Ewen Watson is chief organiser of the event that has been running for a total of 53 years.

“This is my eighth year,” he said. “and I’m still always impressed by the range of talent on display.

“It would be too hard for me to pick a favourite but The Rising Stars singers have been involved in every youth concert I’ve organised so I recognise their continual effort and enthusiasm!”

Rising Stars will perform songs from ‘Back to the Future: The Musical’.

Members Harris Huggan and Rachael Ballingal will also be performing songs separately together.

Forres Youth Theatre are performing at the event for the first time. Their act will be a mash-up of ‘Matilda The Musical’.

Ewen added: “Junior members of Forres Pipe Band traditionally open the concert with a bang.

“And Forres Youth Choir will be returning too after their popular first appearance last year.”

There will also be a marching display from 2nd Forres Boys Brigade, performances from Anderson’s School Choir, Dallas Primary School, and more to be confirmed.

Forres Youth Concert offers an ideal opportunity to showcase skills.

Ewen said: “It’s a great platform for young performers.

“There’s a big stage and a large audience.

“I’d encourage anyone under the age of 18 to take part.”

The Youth Shield will be presented during the show.

“We’re always looking for as many nominations as possible,” said Ewen, “so please get in touch if you know anyone who deserves to be recognised for their efforts.”

Former Moray Councillor and current Forres Community Activities Association (FCAA) member, Lorna Creswel, has been involved in the youth concert since moving to Forres in 1980.

She said: "I'll be on the door this year! Hosts FCAA have appointed Reverend Hamilton Abadas as chairman for this year's event."
