TICKETS for the brand-new MacMoray Family Easter Festival will go on sale this week after the organiser secured a license from the council.

It was announced last year that the all-day festival – which will be headlined by The Boomtown Rats and feature The Vengaboys – would take place in Cooper Park on Saturday, April 16.

However, despite more than 6500 people having put down a deposit, tickets couldn't go on sale until a license was granted by Moray Council.

With the last box ticked, it was granted last night. People who have placed deposits for tickets will receive an email with details on how to purchase these.

Remaining tickets are set to go on sale from 7am on Friday, March 18. A total of 7500 tickets will be sold – so just 1000 remain.

Organiser Andy Macdonald, from Lossiemouth, said: "Yesterday was, quite simply, one of the greatest days of my life.

"I've been working on MacMoray for well over two years now and there hasn't been a day that I've not worked hard at it. I've enjoyed almost all of it, but it wasn't easy."

All of the artists performing at the festival were announced periodically towards the back end of 2021.

There is something for all ages, with Toploader, S Club, Amelia Lily, The Animals, Dr Feelgood and Bad Manners joining The Vengaboys and The Boomtown Rats at the event.

Andy is hoping to make the festival an annual event – and is delighted to bring it to the area where he grew up.

However, the road to this point hasn't been a straightforward one.

"A few years ago, I had to make a decision of whether I wanted the event in Moray or Lancashire," he said. "Moray has always been my home, but I’ve lived in Lancashire since I was 18.

"After a meeting with Sarah Campbell, Lands and Parks at Moray Council, I decided Cooper Park was the place I had to do it. The location was perfect and there was a sense of excitement in the air.

"From that moment on we have all been working at bringing the event to life and I've been working closely with Moray Council's Steering Group.

"With the event being the first of this scale in Moray, we had to make sure we had everything in place.

"I would say almost all of the hard work is now done.

"We have all the contractors in place, the artists are raring to go and we will start building the event on April 12."

There will be plenty more announcements before that date, from activities on the day to second stage acts.

For now, £10 tickets for the car park have gone on sale. There will be a park and ride at Barmuckity Farm and a car park at Moray College.

The festival has also teamed up with C&R taxis as its official sponsor. They will be looking after all park and ride customers and providing a taxi rank.
