DESPITE snow, ice and nationwide travel chaos, Santa Claus and his trusty elves have made it to town to see local children.

Riding on his sleek new sledge customised by Forres Rotary with the help of local businesses, the nation's favourite pensioner and his hand-picked team of elves have - so far - followed Forres' fire engine around Kinloss, Knockomie and Mannachie, with four more runs to come.

Rotarian, Andy Wardley, confirmed families have been braving the weather to wave and tell Santa what they want for Christmas.

He said: "Despite the weather, all is going well and safely. The fire engine is well lit up which draws everyone out.

"Folk know when we are out as many are waiting for us. We also see a lot of them waving from their windows!"

Santa's trusty elves, firefighters and Rotarians in high-viz accompanying the sleigh are making collections for local causes and The Fire Fighters Charity.

"Collectors are not knocking on doors," said Andy, "but they will go to doors and garden gates if called. Collections are also being taken from the roadside and on footpaths."
