POLICE Scotland have charged two females, aged 13 and 14, following reports of damage caused to properties in the west end of Forres.

The teenagers will be reported to the Youth Justice Management Unit (YJMU) based at Beechbrae Education Centre, Duffus Road, Elgin, directed by the Scottish Government Youth Justice Plan as well as the Moray Youth Justice Strategy Group.

YJMU will advise on disposal for the offences.

Since the start of February, there have been eight vandalisms reported in Forres – all apart from one have taken place in the west side of the town.

Forres-based Inspector, Tony McCullie, confirmed there has been an increase in general antisocial behaviour in the town in recent months, including property being damaged by youths.

He said: "In the main, it has been cracked windows, graffiti and in one case, paint being thrown.

"Enquiries are ongoing and I am hopeful that the majority of them will be detected."

He added: "These acts are upsetting for the owners of the properties concerned, not least the financial impact it has on them.

"Officers in Forres are working tirelessly to track down those responsible and the local community can be assured that we will deal with them accordingly.

"Community policing is at the heart of what we do and officers work closely with partner agencies as we are aware of the upset that this form of behaviour can have.

"I would also appeal to parents to assist us in taking an interest into where their children have been and who they have been with.

"We have officers patrolling in the area and anyone with any concerns should contact Police Scotland on 101."
