All Moray's secondary schools are some primaries will be affected when teachers go on strike next week.

The Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) have stated they intend to take industrial action on Thursday, December 8.

As a result the council says all Moray secondary schools will be closed to S1-3 pupils that day.

In relation to older pupils in S4-6, classes will go ahead depending on staff availability.

All primary schools will remain open to all pupils unless parents are notified otherwise by the head teacher.

Early Learning and Childcare Centres will operate as normal.

Vivienne Cross, the council's head of education, said: "While the potential numbers involved in this possible industrial action are lower than in previous strikes, it’s clear there will be considerable impact on all secondary schools.

"Once again, I fully appreciate that this is inconvenient for families and I have faith that this advance notice allows them to make the necessary arrangements.

"If this situation changes, I will update them again directly."
All council-run schools in Moray closed for the day on November 24 when Scotland's biggest teaching union, the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), went on strike along with the Association of Headteachers and Deputes in Scotland (AHDS).
