COMMUNITY groups are hosting a fundraising afternoon tea in a local village this weekend.
Dyke Landward Community Council (DLCC), Dyke and Edinkillie Parish Church, the Dyke Village Hall Committee and Dyke Primary School have organised the event in the hall on Sunday April 23 from 2-4pm to raise money to maintain defibrillators installed there, Brodie Countryfare and Wellhill Farm Shop.
DLCC member Sheena Tulloch explained attendees will also see a demonstration by Sandra and Gordon McKandie of local charity Kieran’s Legacy.
She added: “Defibrillator maintenance will cost £150 per defib’ per annum so we hope to raise at least £450 to cover that and more for any unforeseen circumstances. There will be tea, home baked cakes, scones and traybakes, a raffle and stalls. More raffle prizes and bottle contributions will be greatly appreciated, as will support via baking or volunteering. If you can help please call me on 07876712398.”
There will be biscuits from from Maclean’s Highland Bakery and raffle prizes confirmed so far include: afternoon tea for two at Brodie Countryfare and Ditsy Teacup, Elgin; a cushion from Lisa Miele at Sylvan Designs; a gift voucher from Mackenzie and Cruickshank; a variety of prizes from Tesco Forres; and a voucher for home grown beef from Wellhill Farm.
The McKandies of Kieran’s Legacy will show how defibs improve the chances of survival for people suffering a cardiac arrest.
Sheena said: “There are so many people alive today because of defibs - it’s important as many people as possible learn how to use them to save more lives. It’s vital they are properly maintained so that they are in good working order should they be needed.”
Tea entrance will cost £3 per adult and £1 for children.
