A local science-fiction fan is opening the self-made universe behind his home to the public to raise funds for charity.

Mark Donald of 10 Castle Street hopes that folk will donate to Macmillan Cancer Support while visiting the Star Wars garden he has painstakingly put together over the last six years.

He said: “The garden - mostly made from scrap - was much appreciated when I last opened it on May 4. It’s unlike anything else local and is worth seeing for all ages.”

The site features 31 life size characters and six large/life size spaceships that Mark has made or bought in.

Mark’s donations page at https://www.justgiving.com/page/starwarsmyworld has so far raised more than £150 for Macmillan.

He said: “It’s to run into early September yet so it could take off a bit more. I also plan to go door-to-door with donation forms.”

The next Star Wars garden open day is on Saturday, August 5 from midday to 8pm before the final one this year on Saturday, September 2.

Mark finished: “I will give the funds raised to the charity and plan additions to the garden for 2024. Watch this space because my new job has better pay and I’ve nights and weekends off to work on it now!”
