Moray Council is selling Forres' Leys Road toilet block for £45,000

A BUILDING in the centre of Forres with potential for a wide range of uses is up for sale.
Owner Moray Council is hopeful that a buyer can be found for the former toilet block with disabled access at the Leys Road car park between the High Street Co-op and the Tolbooth Street steps.
A spokesperson explained: “The building was closed in 2018 in relation to budget savings. The proceeds from its sale will contribute towards the provision of Council services and bring a surplus building back into use.”
The local authority is looking for offers over £45,000 for the 619 square foot building. The single storey brick construction has a flat roof covered with Sarnafil and skylights providing natural light. Its office, toilets, storage and separately ramp-accessed disabled toilet are served by mains electricity, water and sewerage, with heating and lighting.
Councillor Kathleen Robertson (Forres, Conservative) suggests the building could be used as an office, for retail, food or drink.
She said: “This is a unique opportunity for a business or enterprise to establish in an area with a good footfall. It is so close to the carpark and the high street.”
The building was discussed at the February 15 meeting of Forres Community Council in Forres House Community Centre.
Chairman Steve Ferris said: “It’s sad that we’ve lost these facilities in the centre of town. However, the toilets here in the centre are available to the public so tourists will have that option. We could do with more visible signage to advise them.”
Alterations would be required to be sensitive to the Forres Conservation Area.
The property has a Rateable Value of £5,300.
