BUSINESSMAN and politician P.T. Barnum believed ‘the noblest art is that of making others happy’.

And Moray Operatic and Dramatic Society (MODS), with the help of Film Forres, aims to make attendees smile this weekend during a sing-along screening of ‘The Greatest Showman’ at Forres Town Hall.

MODS secretary Fiona Grant confirmed the event is in aid of the amateur theatre group that runs small productions in the area.

She said: “The MODS work hard but boy do we have fun! The idea for this event is for everyone to enjoy themselves. The Greatest Showman is so popular - the title song featured in our ‘Pride in Moray’ set in September and will be in our shows in January.”

The biographical pop musical stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. Featuring nine original songs, the film is based on the story of showman and entertainer P.T. Barnum, and the Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Development manager at Film Forres, Ruth Whitfield, was delighted when MODS asked the charity to host the screening.

She said: “With additional financial support from Visit Moray Speyside, all profits will go to MODS for their future events ... And there will be subtitles for those who don’t know the words!”

Circus-themed refreshments including popcorn and candy floss will be available and there will also be a raffle, musical theatre scratch cards and a photo booth. The organisers encourage attendees to “step right up” in costume for the chance to win a prize.

“Think Circus, think theatrical,” said Mrs Grant. “We love to dress up so you’ll see a bearded lady, a ringmaster and a gypsy or two!”

Doors open at 6.30pm on Saturday, November 11 for a 7pm start. Pre-booking via themods.org.uk is advisable.

Adults £5, under-12s pay just £1.
