THE name of the north-east solider to be commemorated in sand has been revealed.

Captain Charles Hamilton Sorley will be represented by a large-scale portrait on Roseisle Beach for film director's Danny Boyle's Armistice commission to mark 100 years since the end of The Great War.

The image will be visible at low tide on November 11 as one of 32 beaches across the UK and the Republic of Ireland taking part in a nationwide gesture of remembrance.

It will be designed by sand artists, Sand In Your Eye, with the portrait being washed away as the tide comes in.
