CULTURAL and heritage sites in Moray are opening up for the 33rd Doors Open Day on Saturday, September 24.

Organisations and volunteers will offer free access to sites and events to ensure that Scotland’s cultural heritage is made accessible to everyone living in or visiting the country.

Moray has a packed programme lined up at Covesea Lighthouse, Elgin Fire Station, Forres Tolbooth, Fochabers Folk Museum, Buckie and District Fishing Heritage Centre, Elgin Sheriff Court, The Cabrach Trust and during a Ghost Tour of Elgin.

Forres and District Men’s Shed will also be taking part to demonstrate what members do as well as the aims and objectives of the shed.

Secretary David Parker said: "Moray Doors Open Day on Saturday from 10am-noon will be a great time for people to see what we do at the shed and what we give to the local community."

Moray Council leader, Kathleen Robertson, hopes as many people as possible take up the opportunity to see inside buildings they otherwise would not.

She said: "This year, as we get back to fully in-person visits, it’s great to see so many heritage icons throwing open their doors. I hope many take up the opportunity to connect with our cultural offerings on a fun, free day out.”

Director of Scottish Civic Trust, Dr Susan O’Connor, added: “Doors Open offers visitors the chance to play ‘tourist’ in their own town as they uncover new experiences and revisit the old favourites right on their doorstep.”
