A GROUP of scouts presented a cheque for £1770 to Rotary Club of Forres to help people affected by the war in Ukraine.
Twelve 1st Forres Scouts raised the funds via a 22-mile sponsored cycle in poor weather on the Dava Way – 13-year-olds Adam Rhind, Jack Kendrick, Harry Elvines and Phoebe Dennis handed the proceeds over to Forres Rotary president Tony O’Neill to provide three ShelterBoxes, adding to six already sent by the local Rotarians.
Tony confirmed the collection will fund boxes of emergency kit to be forwarded to disaster areas.
He said: “We are delighted that the scouts raised so much money – well done to all, as it was a difficult challenge.”
Rotarian Andy Wardley showed the scouts what is in a ShelterBox. They were impressed with the work the charity is doing to help those displaced by Russia’s attacks.
1st Forres Scouts' secretary Louise Berry confirmed the cheque presentation was made at the group’s bothy at Aitnoch.
She said: “Thank you to our sponsors. The handover was an opportunity for Rotary representatives to meet our scouts away from the hut and to see what they do when camping. Also, to introduce the ShelterBox appeal and its work across the world.”
She added: “Next for the scouts... getting back on the water as the weather warms up, more camps and anything else that comes along!”
