A MUCH-loved voluntary postal service offered during the festive period will make a welcome return this year.

Secretary of 1st Forres Scout Group, Louise Berry, has confirmed the Scout Christmas Post is going ahead for the first time since the outbreak of coronavirus two years ago.

She said: “We’re delighted to say that the Forres Scouts Christmas Post will be going ahead this year. Our last post was in 2019 and we can’t wait to get back to it! This year we are only doing two sorts on December 9 and 16. This will give us plenty of time to have all of the cards delivered.”

The Scouts typically deliver around 8000 cards and greetings after sorting the mailboxes at their Bank Lane headquarters.

All of the sections - Beavers (aged 6-8), Cubs (8-10), Scouts (10-14) and Explorers (14-18) - help out, plus leaders and committee members. Parents and grandparents too, as well as other long-serving members of the community.

Postboxes are placed around town and emptied by volunteers before the sort and coordinated group deliveries around designated areas in Forres.

“The post boxes will be going out today (Saturday, December 3),” said Louise. “They will be removed on December 16. You can find them at Mackenzie and Cruickshank, Lidl, Tesco, Wright’s Home Hardware, Forres House Community Centre, Forres High Street Co-op and the Spar at Fleurs.”

The Christmas post is 1st Forres Scouts’ major annual fundraiser - any donations are welcome at www.donate.1stforresscouts.co.uk.

Louise finished: “We are keeping our 2019 price amount of 30p per card. Cards and donations should be placed in a bag before posting in one of our boxes. We’re very grateful to local businesses for continuing to support us.”
