Scotland’s animal welfare charity wants to make helping the country’s animals as easy and accessible as possible, and is encouraging the public to ask their local teams about how they can help.

Community fundraising and events manager, Stacy Rowan, said, “Last year our animal rescue officers and inspectors attended a massive 86,078 incidents across Scotland.

“We often meet kind people when we’re out on the road who want to donate quickly, but don’t always have the time to go through our website or have cash available.

“We hope that by introducing contactless donations, it will be more accessible for the public to help Scotland’s animals, like Hippo the seal.

“Hippo was found with deep wounds on his back flippers which were severely infected. He also had wounds on this face and weighed just 26.95kg.

“He was brought to our National Wildlife Rescue Centre by one of our animal rescue officers where he received the veterinary treatment he needed. This included monitoring and cleaning his wounds, pain relief, rehydration fluid, x-rays, and assisted feeding.

“He was successfully rehabilitated and released after a couple of months, weighing a healthy 46.5kg.

“A £5 donation can help keep our animal rescue officers and inspectors on the road all year round so we can be there for more abandoned, abused, neglected and injured animals like Hippo.

“If you’d like to support Scotland’s animals with a contactless donation, please keep a look out for your local team members who will always be in uniform and in a Scottish SPCA branded black van. They will also be able to produce identification if they are asked.

“It’s never been easier to help Scotland’s animals, and we are so grateful for your support.”
