Long Walk To Freedom: Pro-independence march to make its way from Brodie Castle to Elgin

A GROUP of Scottish independence supporters will be marching from Brodie to Elgin tomorrow.

Walkers taking part in the Long Walk To Freedom will be leaving Brodie Castle at 10am and arriving in Elgin at around 5.30pm.

Those taking part are set to be welcomed at the bridge near Elgin Cathedral with a display of flags by members and supporters of Yes Elgin and Yes Moray.

Hosted by the Scottish Digital Covenant, the Long Walk To Freedom is a combination of three walking routes covering the length and breadth of Scotland. The aim is to walk through every city and

town by November 30.

Volunteers commenced walk one, of which Moray forms part, on September 18 and will walk from Brodie Castle to Elgin tomorrow. The route will miss out Forres High Street.

The walk one route covers 1320 miles to commemorate the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath – widely considered the founding document of independent Scotland.

While commemorating Scotland’s history, the walk also aims to focus on Scotland’s future and show "the strength, diversity and community spirit" across the nation. The walk will finish in the Scottish Borders at the end of November.

Current coronavirus restrictions will be be adhered to by all those involved with the march.
