A SCOTTISH folk and rock star is performing in a Forres venue, ahead of a new film being screened featuring his music.

As part of his final Scottish tour, Ivan Drever is playing the Tolbooth from 7.30pm on Tuesday April 17 before the documentary about former Prime Minister and Lossie man Ramsay MacDonald ‘From the Darkness into the Light’ is shown the following evening at the same venue at 7pm.

Forres-based Filmmaker and Drever fan Yvonne Finlay’s screening is sold out - she confirmed the songwriter and guitarist mixes traditional folk music with rock and roll.

She said: “I chose Ivan's work for the documentary because the wistful quality of his music is so evocative of landscape, heritage and mood -perfect to portray MacDonald's compelling and tragic story. It’s such a privilege to have his music in my film and to be welcoming him to Forres.
"Special thanks must go to Forres Heritage Trust once for enabling this concert to be held."

Drever has recorded a number of solo albums and with other performers.
Originally from the island of Sanday in Orkney, in 1974 he founded the Knowe O’ Deil Band.

He moved to Easter Ross and joined Wolfstone in 1990 with Duncan Chisholm, founder of the Celtic rock band. The pair performed worldwide and produced several award-winning albums. The 1997 film ‘Good Will Hunting’ included their song ‘Heart and Soul’.
Ivan also toured the UK and US as the chief songwriter for Californian dance spectacular Celtic Fusion.
He continues to produce new material and perform live with his unique guitar style.

“I first heard Ivan play with The Knowe O' Deil Band at a party in Orkney when I was a teenager.” explained Yvonne. “This was my first experience of traditional music and I was spellbound. The music and lyrics were about things I cared deeply about and I have followed his career ever since.”
