SANTA Claus and his volunteers made a personal appearance at a local supermarket before Christmas.

Following a seven evening tour of Forres and Kinloss, Santa, his chief elf and Forres Fire Station crew parked their sleigh up at Tesco on Nairn Road on Saturday, December 23 to greet families while collecting for local causes.

Santa explained: “We requested to be at the door of Tesco because of the hideous rain outside.

“The staff allowed us to interact with all of their shoppers, including families and children.

“Everyone was pleased to see us, particularly those who missed our tours during the previous week.”

The sleigh routes this year took in Kinloss, Pilmuir, Thornhill, Knockomie, St Leonard’s Road, Bogton and Forbeshill. The sleigh itself - sponsored by local businesses - was preceded by a fire engine’s lights and siren.

Santa Claus, his trusted elf and four firemen were at Tesco from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

“We were thrilled to spread festive cheer to the shoppers,” said Santa.

“My message to the children was ‘sleep well on Christmas Eve and enjoy Christmas Day with your loved ones’. Many of them were amazed to see me at Tesco! We explained that he was trying to make sure that anyone who didn’t see him touring their neighbourhoods could see him there, ahead of his deliveries on Christmas Eve.”
