Moray's MP has sent his congratulations to Liz Truss who's set to become the new Prime Minister.

Truss was announced as the winner of the Conservative party’s leadership contest at lunchtime today.

She is now set to be confirmed as Prime Minister tomorrow.

Douglas Ross says he intends to work closely with her, both in his role as Moray’s MP as well as the leader of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Mr Ross said: "I offer my warmest congratulations to Liz Truss on being elected as the new Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative party.

"The contest showed the depth of talent that is within the Conservative party and Liz and Rishi Sunak as the final two candidates can be proud of the campaigns they conducted.

"Now that Liz Truss has been elected it is imperative for the party to come together and immediately focus on the huge challenges facing people right now in Moray and across the country.

"The global cost-of-living crisis is having a major impact on families, individuals and businesses across Moray who are seeing costs and bills ever-increasing.

"Liz Truss’ track record is one of delivery, especially in removing taxes on whisky and cashmere which are such important industries here for the people and the economy in Moray.

"I am looking forward to engaging closely with her in order to ensure that people and businesses across Moray are supported through this extremely difficult time."
